Advanced and Defensive Driving Courses Wales (inc. Gwent, Dyfed, Clwyd, Powys, Gwynedd)
Wales is a county that is home to a wide range of fast, challenging rural roads. It’s this very reason why our advanced driving courses in Wales focus a lot on these sorts of roads. Rural roads are dangerous due to them being relatively fast and challenging, with numerous hazards, twisty, turning roads, and varying road surfaces.
Some time ago, we noticed that in a world where many things can be bespoke to your needs and arranged conveniently online, the driver training industry fell short. Despite the vital importance of improving road safety, it simply was not that easy to find high-quality, bespoke driver training to cater for your own specific needs and requirements. This is where we come in. All our tutors have a passion for road safety and teach the latest driving techniques to drivers of all abilities in an easy-to-learn informative and enjoyable way.

For all our bespoke driving courses in Wales, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:
Motorway/ A Road training – There is only one motorway in Wales, and that is the M4 from London through to Swansea, but there are many faster A-road routes that we can use to help with motorway confidence training. The A470 leaves Cardiff, runs across the Brecon Beacons National Park, and ends in Builth Wells. We have used this route in the past to help drivers increase their motorway driving skills, such as scanning the road and better observations. Faster roads and motorways have a specific set of challenges, mainly the higher speeds and the amount of extra traffic, but learning how to stay calm and composed on the motorway is a must. The extra lanes and many junctions could be worrying, especially if you find yourself boxed in by large lorries blocking your view. The A487 follows the coast along West Wales, ends in Snowdonia, and merges into the A470 and onto the A55 into Chester, where it joins the M53. All of these faster routes are great for motorway training in Wales.
Rural Roads – Wales is mainly rural, with large pockets of the country being served by minor B roads and single-track lanes. In south Wales from Newport and Cardiff, many rural roads encircle the A470 and using these routes, and we can hone your skills for rural driving. There have been thousands of accidents along these routes, the B4251 and the B4255 being some of the worse. We can create a route specific to certain areas that many drivers struggle to navigate safely, as rural driving has many hazards, especially in the winter, where there will be flooding and possibly tree falls, as well as helping drivers cope with twisty lanes where there is little forward vision. The summer can bring many tourists, caravans, cars and bikers to Wales, and unfortunately, accidents will happen when the roads are unfamiliar. To be a confident rural driver is a skill that can be learned. By learning driving systems such as the ‘Limit Point’ and better observations, rural driving will become a pleasure. We have helped people all across Wales become safer drivers.
Urban Training – Wales is a sprawling country with large towns such as Cardiff, Newport and Swansea in the South, and Wrexham, Rhyl and Colwyn Bay to the North. Driving in busy urban areas can be stressful, especially during rush hour. The bigger roundabouts and multi-lane junctions confuse many drivers, such as the Coryton Roundabout in Cardiff, which has seen many accidents over the last few years. Understanding and anticipating the actions of other drivers in urban environments can be very beneficial. It will help you navigate busy town centres, and we can also help with parking in tight spaces if this is something you need help with.
During training, we typically look at:
* Forward planning and observation
* Speed awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions
