Advanced & Defensive Driving Courses Cardiff

We have over 200 DVSA Fleet Registered driving tutors across the UK. We cover around 97% of the UK, including Cardiff and South Wales.

We have provided bespoke driver training for companies and private customers based in and around Cardiff.  Similar to our courses all over the UK, our training focuses on developing a driver on a range of roads. In Cardiff, this includes town driving in the centre of Cardiff and also towards more out-of-town, rural areas. We often head out towards the M4 if you’re looking at motorway training or if motorway training is part of your bespoke course.

Deciding to use us for your driver training needs, comes with a number of advantages that include:

* One-to-one driver training
* Full UK coverage
* We only use DVSA-registered fleet/advanced driving instructors
* You have a personal account manager to arrange your courses and look after you before, during and after a course
* All training is bespoke to the driver’s needs and requirements
* Full reporting for each driver, which measures their driving both before and after the training

We cover South Wales + All of the UK – We come to you for the training:

We provide bespoke advanced/defensive driver training to companies and private individuals using our national network of DVSA-registered advanced driving instructors.

After the training, you will receive a full driving report, which will outline the driving standard both before and after the training. We measure a driver in 20+ key areas and score them either excellent, very good, good, adequate or poor. We do this at the start and the end, so you can see the improvement and in what areas. There will also be notes from the tutor too.

This report (and course) will be completed by a professional DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) registered advanced driving instructor. The tutors DVSA registration number will be recorded on this report. As you may have seen from our website, we come to you for the training, which takes place in your own car.

During a session, we typically look at:

* Forward planning and observation
* Speed Awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, and planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions

Remember – All of our on-road driving courses are bespoke to your own needs. This relates to both business and private customers

Training can be done on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis. Around 90% of our clients opt for the 2:1 format due to time and cost savings. The 2:1 format is simply where one driver goes out with one tutor for 3.5 hours in the morning and another for the same time period in the afternoon.

For all our bespoke driving courses in Cardiff, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – The M4 skirts Cardiff to the north and links London to Swansea, and the M48 is a small motorway link from the A48, which merges onto the M4 past St. Mellons and Castleton. For drivers who may not be familiar with fast driving, motorways tend to be avoided when possible, but with some extra motorway training, many fears can be quashed. Several techniques will help with forward planning and observations so that you can enter and exit the junctions at the correct speed and maintain composure when overtaking and changing lanes in time to exit. Statistically, motorway driving is one of the safest routes to travel.

Rural Roads – Cardiff has both coastal and rural roads within a few miles of the centre, and these roads have seen many accidents, some sadly being fatal. For example, the triangle of rural roads between Llantisant, Tonteg and Porth is particularly hazardous, and several accidents have been on single-track lanes. Towards the coast, there are similar roads with hazards, including slow-moving tourist traffic on unfamiliar roads, often driving large campervans. Rural accidents usually occur in areas with many blind spots, such as very winding roads where forward vision is obstructed. With some simple driving skills, you should be able to navigate any rural road safely.

Urban Training – The A4232 and the A48 circle Cardiff city centre have many large roundabouts and multilane traffic light systems to navigate if you live or work in the city. These routes can be extremely busy, and at specific times such as rush hours, they can be slow-moving and annoying, and a simple lapse of attention or being impatient can easily cause an accident. When driving in complicated urban situations, it is vital that you are fully aware of your surroundings and brushing up on your MSM (mirror, signal, manoeuvre) routine can be very beneficial. This would have been one of the main criteria for passing a driving test, but it is one of the first things drivers neglect, along with leaving enough space between yourself and the vehicle in front. With some advanced driving techniques, you will be able to drive in any urban area, not just those you are familiar with. You will also be more able to anticipate the actions of other road users with our training too.
