For all our bespoke driving courses in Wales, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:
Motorway/A Road Training – There are two motorways in Wales, the M4, which runs from London to Swansea and the M48. However, there are many faster A-road routes that can be used to help with motorway confidence training. The A470 leaves Cardiff, runs across the Brecon Beacons National Park, and ends in Builth Wells. We have used this route in the past to help drivers improve their motorway driving skills, such as scanning the road and making more informed observations. Faster roads and motorways present a specific set of challenges, primarily the higher speeds and increased traffic volume, but learning how to stay calm and composed on the motorway is essential. The extra lanes and many junctions could be worrying, especially if you find yourself boxed in by large lorries blocking your view. The A487 follows the coast along West Wales, ends in Snowdonia, and merges into the A470 and onto the A55 into Chester, where it joins the M53. All of these faster routes are great for motorway training in Wales.
Rural Roads – Wales is predominantly rural, with large areas of the country served by minor B roads and single-track lanes. In South Wales, from Newport and Cardiff, many rural roads encircle the A470 and using these routes, we can hone our skills for rural driving. There have been thousands of accidents along these routes, the B4251 and the B4255 being some of the worse. We can create a route specific to certain areas that many drivers struggle to navigate safely, as rural driving presents numerous hazards, especially in winter, when flooding and possible tree falls are common, as well as helping drivers cope with twisty lanes where there is limited forward vision. The summer can bring many tourists, caravans, cars, and bikers to Wales, and unfortunately, accidents are more likely to happen when the roads are unfamiliar. To be a confident rural driver is a skill that can be learned. By learning driving systems such as the ‘Limit Point’ and better observations, rural driving will become a pleasure. We have helped people all across Wales become safer, happier drivers.
Urban Training – Wales is a sprawling country with large towns such as Cardiff, Newport and Swansea in the South, and Wrexham, Rhyl and Colwyn Bay to the North. Driving in busy urban areas can be stressful, especially during rush hour. The larger roundabouts and multi-lane junctions can confuse many drivers, such as the Coryton Roundabout in Cardiff, which has seen a number of accidents over the last few years. Understanding and anticipating the actions of other drivers in urban environments can be very beneficial. It will help you navigate busy town centres, and we can also help with parking in tight spaces if this is something you need help with.
