Advanced and Defensive Driving Courses Wales (inc. Gwent, Dyfed, Clwyd, Powys, Gwynedd)

Wales is a county that is home to a wide range of fast, challenging rural roads. It’s precisely for this reason that our driving courses in Wales place a strong emphasis on these types of roads. Rural roads are dangerous due to their relatively fast and challenging nature, with numerous hazards, twisty, turning roads, and varying road surfaces.

Our Difference

Some time ago, we noticed that in a world where many things can be bespoke to your needs and arranged conveniently online, the driver training industry fell short. Despite the vital importance of improving road safety, it was not that easy to find high-quality, bespoke driver training that catered to your specific needs and requirements. This is where we come in. All our tutors have a passion for road safety and teach the latest driving techniques to drivers of all abilities in an easy-to-learn, informative, and enjoyable way.

Areas in Wales where we cover:

We provide training in all areas of Wales, with the majority of our courses taking place in South Wales, including Cardiff, Swansea, and other locations such as Abergavenny. We are not based just in these locations. We also provide training in other areas of Wales, including Dyfed, Clwyd, Powys, Gwynedd and all areas in North Wales.

Type of courses we offer:

1. Advanced and defensive driving courses
2. Confidence driving courses
3. Refresher driving courses
4. Post-RTC driving courses
5. Driving courses for business/fleet customers (car and van)
6. Younger driving courses
7. Motorway driver training
8. Motorhome training

For all our bespoke driving courses in Wales, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway/A Road TrainingThere are two motorways in Wales, the M4, which runs from London to Swansea and the M48. However, there are many faster A-road routes that can be used to help with motorway confidence training. The A470 leaves Cardiff, runs across the Brecon Beacons National Park, and ends in Builth Wells. We have used this route in the past to help drivers improve their motorway driving skills, such as scanning the road and making more informed observations. Faster roads and motorways present a specific set of challenges, primarily the higher speeds and increased traffic volume, but learning how to stay calm and composed on the motorway is essential. The extra lanes and many junctions could be worrying, especially if you find yourself boxed in by large lorries blocking your view. The A487 follows the coast along West Wales, ends in Snowdonia, and merges into the A470 and onto the A55 into Chester, where it joins the M53. All of these faster routes are great for motorway training in Wales.

Rural RoadsWales is predominantly rural, with large areas of the country served by minor B roads and single-track lanes. In South Wales, from Newport and Cardiff, many rural roads encircle the A470 and using these routes, we can hone our skills for rural driving. There have been thousands of accidents along these routes, the B4251 and the B4255 being some of the worse. We can create a route specific to certain areas that many drivers struggle to navigate safely, as rural driving presents numerous hazards, especially in winter, when flooding and possible tree falls are common, as well as helping drivers cope with twisty lanes where there is limited forward vision. The summer can bring many tourists, caravans, cars, and bikers to Wales, and unfortunately, accidents are more likely to happen when the roads are unfamiliar. To be a confident rural driver is a skill that can be learned. By learning driving systems such as the ‘Limit Point’ and better observations, rural driving will become a pleasure. We have helped people all across Wales become safer, happier drivers.

Urban TrainingWales is a sprawling country with large towns such as Cardiff, Newport and Swansea in the South, and Wrexham, Rhyl and Colwyn Bay to the North. Driving in busy urban areas can be stressful, especially during rush hour. The larger roundabouts and multi-lane junctions can confuse many drivers, such as the Coryton Roundabout in Cardiff, which has seen a number of accidents over the last few years. Understanding and anticipating the actions of other drivers in urban environments can be very beneficial. It will help you navigate busy town centres, and we can also help with parking in tight spaces if this is something you need help with.

During training, we typically look at:

* Forward planning and observation
* Speed awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions
