Defensive, Advanced and Confidence Driving Courses Southampton

We offer defensive, advanced and other driving courses across the UK, including Southampton, for both business and private customers. We cover training on a wide range of roads, including rural roads, urban roads and motorways.

We can adjust the training based on your driver’s needs. For example, some drivers may wish to only look at motorway driving; others prefer a mix. The training can start from your home or office, which tends to be the most convenient way our courses run for clients.

We make high-quality, bespoke driver training convenient and easily accessible for customers.

With a focus on exceptional quality, we provide a personal, one-to-one service supported by a talented team of professionals who love what they do. For driver training, we take the time to handpick the best tutors to ensure our customers receive the best training possible. Our flexibility means we can tailor a driving course to a customer’s specific needs.

During our advanced driver training, we cover many elements, including:

  • Speed awareness
  • How to lower the chances of having a road traffic collision
  • Forward planning
  • Learning the system of car control
  • Commentary driving
  • How to identify and eliminate bad habits
  • Motorway and dual carriageway driving
  • Learning how to drive in a more environmentally friendly way
  • Learning how to better anticipate the actions of other drivers
  • How to deal with road rage

Whether you are a business client or a private individual – we have a number of specialist courses to increase the skill and safety of a driver. Our courses are available for car and van drivers.

3.5hr – Around 30% opt for this course. The benefits of this course are that it’s the cheapest, and is only 3.5hr, the disadvantages are that for some drivers it’s too short. Ideal mainly for companies training four or more drivers.

2 x 3.5hr – This is advantageous for customers that can’t drive for 7hrs and need the split to reflect. Often a driver gets homework in this session, so they can practice what has been taught in session 1, to help them with session 2. Older drivers often opt for this course.

7hr full day – Although it is hard work for some, a full day is cheaper than 2 x 3.5hr. It’s good for those who are time-poor. Maybe your company has asked you to do this course, or maybe you feel a 7hr will work better for you. Talk with us if you are unsure.

We understand not all drivers want a half, full or two half days. Some need or want longer. That is why we offer 3,4, and 5 x 3.5h sessions. These courses are often run over a few weeks and are mostly designed for drivers who have significant issues, such as a driving phobia, or need confidence training after a serious road traffic collision.

Remember – Each driving course is totally bespoke to your own specific needs and requirements. This applies to both our business and private client courses.

For all our bespoke driving courses in Southampton, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – The M27 lies to the north of Southampton and is linked via the M271. Motorway driving can be very stressful for some drivers, and in many cases, these drivers will avoid motorway travel, often adding hours to a long journey. By taking some extra training, motorway driving can be much less worrying, and several driving systems can help promote confidence on these fast routes. The higher speeds and more traffic are the most worrying, but learning how to enter and exit busy junctions at the correct speeds and understanding how to change lanes and overtake will really help you. We have helped many drivers with motorway driving, from business fleet drivers to young drivers.

Rural Roads – Southampton has both rural and coastal roads surrounding the city, and the roads leading towards Portsmouth, such as the A47 east, past Titchfield and Fareham, have seen many accidents that could have been avoided with better forward observations and possibly less speed. This is very similar to the A27 travelling north-west through Romsey and onto Andover. Rural accidents can be severe, and unfortunately, young drivers are harmed most in rural areas. There is minimal street lighting and few speed cameras, and the temptation to speed is very high in these areas. There are several extra things to look out for with rural driving, from poor road surfaces tight corners on narrow lanes, which are often single-track, and the possibility of oncoming vehicles and (quite often) animals to look out for.

Urban Training – Southampton has much more traffic than many cities due to the port, where thousands of drivers can be found heading to cruise lines and, on big match days, even more traffic to the football ground. Many drivers will be unfamiliar with Southampton routes as they are not driven often, and the local drivers can be very frustrated with the slow traffic that can ensue. The A38 Mountbatten Way and the A3057 through Shirley and Maybush are particularly accident-prone. Impatience is one of the biggest reasons for accidents in busy urban environments where drivers are in a rush, especially during rush hours. Drivers must use their mirrors and indicators well, particularly near traffic light junctions or roundabouts, as these areas are most prominent for collisions.

Training Options:

We can offer training on a 1:1 or a 2:1 basis. A 2:1 basis is when one tutor will train two drivers over the course of one day.

Usually, the tutor will train the first driver for 3.5 hours in the morning and then the other driver for 3.5 hours in the afternoon. We can also offer 2 x 3.5hr sessions or 3 x 3.5-hour sessions too.

This is a very popular option for companies that want to train a number of drivers in a timely and cost-efficient way. There is no minimum level of experience or driving standard. We train newly qualified drivers to those with 40+ years of experience.
