We provide bespoke advanced/defensive driver training to companies and private individuals using our national network of DVSA-registered advanced driving instructors.

We have currently helped many businesses and private clients in this county alone, including those based in Halifax, Huddersfield, Rochdale and Leeds. In West Yorkshire, we have an excellent range of roads to provide advanced driver training on, including the M606, M1, A1(M), M62, and other major roads, as well as a network of mainly A and B roads.

For all our bespoke driving courses in West Yorkshire, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – West Yorkshire has three motorways: the M1 from Sheffield, the M62 from Manchester, and the M621 encircling Leeds. Many issues can stop drivers from using these routes. The motorways are statistically the safest route of travel, but the higher speeds can make people very anxious. We can create a course in West Yorkshire covering all the motorways and faster A roads, such as the A1 to the east of the county.

Rural Roads – West Yorkshire boasts an extensive network of rural roads alongside large urban centres, yet some of its most scenic landscapes lie beyond the cities. To the south, the rolling hills lead towards the Peak District, while to the north, the Yorkshire Dales offer breathtaking views. Driving in these rural areas brings unique challenges, and unfortunately, the most serious accidents often occur here. With fewer road signs and markings, navigation can be tricky. Weather conditions can exacerbate the situation; storms can trigger floods, bring down trees, and even cut off villages for days. A thriving farming industry adds to the complexity of rural driving. Slow-moving agricultural vehicles may block narrow lanes, leaving trails of mud or hay, while livestock may occasionally wander onto the road. Being prepared for these conditions and knowing how to adapt your driving will not only make your journey safer but will also help you handle whatever surprises the countryside throws your way.

Urban Training – The larger urban areas in West Yorkshire, such as Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds, and Wakefield, have extremely busy town centres and retail areas that often feature routes with multiple lanes and numerous traffic calming systems. If you are unfamiliar with your surroundings, driving in busy towns and cities can be a little distressing for some, so you must be extra cautious when sharing the road with cyclists, pedestrians, and bus lanes. Urban driving can be slower, especially during rush hours, and you can become quite frustrated with other road users. Understanding and anticipating the actions of other drivers is a skill that our advanced driver training can help you with.

We tend to find a large proportion of companies that require advanced driver training in West Yorkshire do so due to an increasing level of accidents, which inevitably leads to high fleet insurance premiums and the awareness that they are putting themselves at risk as an organisation – something which is a real threat in light of the Corporate Manslaughter Act. Private clients in West Yorkshire come to us for a wide range of reasons, including motorway confidence training, post-accident recovery courses, younger driver training, and more.

During a session, we typically look at:

* Forward planning and observation
* Speed Awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, and planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions
