Advanced & Defensive Driving Courses Berkshire

Some time ago, we noticed that despite the importance of improving road safety, it simply was not that easy to find high-quality, bespoke driver training to cater for your own specific needs and requirements. This is where we come in. We make high-quality, driver training convenient and easily accessible for customers. With a focus on excellent quality, we provide personal, one-to-one assistance supported by a skilled team of experts who love what they do.

Berkshire is a great county for our advanced driving courses. We have the M4 that is at a reasonable distance from all areas of the county for motorway training, and also a vast range of both urban and rural roads.  All are essential for a good advanced driving session.

We provide training for both business and private clients.

1 x 7hr session – This is an intensive session and great for those that want to get a course completed in one day. Ideal if you are pushed for time.

3,4 or 5 x 3.5hr sessions – These courses are for those, mostly private customers, that want a more in-depth, longer-term training plan.

The county of Berkshire has the best part of 30 motorway miles, which enables adequate motorway training on all our courses. The M4 in Berkshire is a very busy route for traffic into and out of London, and although we always check there are no traffic jams, we find being able to provide driver training on such a busy motorway is great for building confidence, observation and anticipation skills.

For those nervous about driving on motorways, we can adjust the training to focus on building confidence in an easy, non-intimidating way. You will quickly learn no matter how busy a motorway is, you will be able to drive with confidence and safety.

We have around 40 advanced driving tutors who provide training in the Berkshire area. We have already provided training for companies located in Newbury, Hungerford, Reading, Ascot, Maidenhead, Eton, Slough and Windsor in 2016 alone. Generally speaking, our tutors can travel up to 50 miles from their location to provide driver training, and so with 40 tutors in Berkshire alone, you can be confident we have a driver near to you.

Depending on the start location, we sometimes venture into Surrey or further over to the west, heading into Wiltshire or sometimes into Hampshire with our on-road training.

During a session, we typically look at:

* Forward planning and observation
* Speed Awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions

For all our bespoke driving courses in Berkshire, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – Berkshire is served by the M4 motorway from London through to Cardiff and is the main motorway that we use to help drivers become more confident when driving on busy motorway routes. The highest accident figures tend to come from the junction areas of motorways when people exit and enter the motorway incorrectly. Using better forward planning and scanning the road in advance will help. We teach many driving systems, such as IPSGA (information-planning–speed– gear–accelerate), that will improve your overall driving, not just on the motorway. We can use the M4 from Reading and create a route that includes many junctions to practice your skills, help you avoid being boxed in by large HGVs, and allow you to drive with much more confidence on busy and daunting motorways. Many drivers avoid motorways for these very reasons, which will limit their freedom to travel. It is an excellent idea for anyone to take further driver training once they pass the driving test, but if you struggle with motorways, our training will certainly help.

Rural Roads – Berkshire contains the North Wessex Downs and has many beautiful rural areas to visit and live in, but if you worry about driving on minor rural roads, we can help with specific training for these areas. The A34 has seen an extremely high accident rate, especially around Chilton and Hagbourne Hill, and the triangle area between Marlborough, Newbury and Andover is particularly hazardous. Rural driving has its own set of issues, from single-track lanes and the possibility of reversing to allow another vehicle to pass less signage and little, if any, street lighting. Many collisions happen on rural roads from drivers who are unfamiliar with the area, but with rural driver training, you will be able to navigate country lanes with confidence. Rural roads see many fatal accidents, far more than the motorways, and unfortunately, it does seem to be the younger drivers that make up most of the statistics.

Urban Training – Reading is the largest town in Berkshire and is closely followed by Newbury and Slough, and we have trained many drivers across these areas. Urban driving is stressful as slow-moving, multi-traffic lights and impatient drivers, especially in rush hour, can take their toll. Using the A33 into Reading, you can merge onto the A329 and into the town centre, where there may be one-way systems and pedestrianised areas. By using routes like this, we can help to train drivers with many urban driving issues. From delivery drivers to mature drivers who need help navigating new road layouts, you may need help with urban driving for many reasons. Not understanding or observing the actions of other road users can lead to collisions, and because there will be more pedestrians and cyclists to look out for, it is vital that you are fully aware of your surroundings. Using your mirrors properly, leaving enough space to move around a hazard and understanding how the larger multilane roundabouts work are just a few things we work on during rural driver training.
