For all our bespoke driving courses in Hereford, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – The closest motorways to Hereford are the M50 via the A49 at Ross on Wye, which leads to the M5 at Strensham, and by using these routes, you can venture into the rest of the UK using faster roads. During advanced driver training, we will use such routes to help drivers become more confident when navigating motorways. Motorway travel is generally considered the safest way to travel, according to accident statistics. However, due to the higher speeds, when accidents do occur, they can be severe. Therefore, you must be completely aware of your surroundings and able to anticipate the actions of other drivers.

Rural Roads – Hereford is situated in a very rural area, with numerous miles of open countryside roads and their unique driving challenges. For example, the B4399 towards Fiddlers Green and the A4103 Roman Road towards Kenchester are littered with accident sites, and some have been fatal. Rural driving needs excellent observations and the ability to read the road furniture (lines and signs), as not all rural roads are fully signed and will always have less street lighting than urban areas. When taking advanced driver training, we will teach driving systems such as the ‘limit point’ for navigating winding roads safely and how to reverse on narrow lanes to let other drivers pass, among other points.

Urban Training – Much of Hereford town centre is pedestrianised. Still, the roads leading in and around are particularly prone to accidents, such as the A438 and Victoria Street, and many may have been avoided with some simple observations and more patience. Driving in busy urban settings can be frustrating, especially during rush hours when traffic is high and everyone is trying to reach their destinations on time. Slow-moving traffic often results in minor accidents when drivers fail to pay attention to their entire surroundings, which tend to occur near junctions and roundabouts. Being speed-aware, improving mirror work and indicating better and at the right time can make a world of difference in safer urban driving.

During a session, we typically look at:
.
* Forward planning and observation
* Speed awareness
* Developing a positive attitude towards safer driving
* How to become a safer driver on all roads
* Car or van control (gears, steering, foot controls, signals)
* Rules of the road
* Dealing with road rage
* Reversing and manoeuvres
* Dealing with adverse weather
* Town and urban defensive driving
* Driving in heavy traffic and allowing adequate space
* Skid control theory and learning what causes skids
* Eco-safe driving (effective use of speed, gears, planning)
* Anticipation – Learning to see and not just look
* Understanding other road users and their intentions

How we score a driver:

We score a driver in over 20 areas of driving, both before and after a course, from Excellent to Poor, so you can see the areas of improvement, in what areas, along with handwritten notes from the tutor. Each driver taking the training will also be graded on an overall road risk from low to high. .
