For all our bespoke driving courses in Bedfordshire, we provide training on a range of roads and different areas, which can include:

Motorway training – Bedfordshire is crossed with many fast A road routes, but there are a few motorway routes within a short distance from the county. The M40 from Northampton by the A4500 to the west, where you can join the M6 and the M45 to the north. Motorway driving is challenging for many drivers, and although statistically, they are the safest roads to travel, the amount of traffic and the speed can be very daunting. We can use the A14 to access the motorway routes across Bedfordshire to create a course that will give you motorway confidence, including how to enter and exit motorways safely, helping you avoid being boxed in by heavy road traffic and showing how good forward planning will ease motorway anxiety.

Rural Roads – The majority of Bedfordshire is rural, and many smaller towns and villages are served by them. For example, the more minor roads in the triangle between Northampton, Wellingborough and Bedford are accessed by the A428. There are many worries when driving rural routes, from lack of lighting and speed signs and often single-track lanes, where you may find yourself reversing to allow oncoming vehicles. Rural road driving is a skill that can be problematic unless you drive them regularly or are local to you. Most incidents on rural lanes are much higher than on other routes, and unfortunately, they tend to all too often involve young drivers. Several driving systems can be taught to navigate these types of roads safely, from the limit point system to being able to read the roads in a much better way.

Urban Training – The largest city in Bedfordshire is Northampton, followed by Bedford. Driving confidently and safely in urban areas is essential, especially if you are not used to driving in high-volume traffic. There are many more hazards when driving in urban and town centre areas, such as looking out for pedestrians and cyclists, being aware of bus lanes and being able to anticipate the actions of all other road users. Many town centres are pedestrianised with one-way systems and ring roads for better traffic flow, and knowing how to navigate unfamiliar urban roads is a must. We can build a course that will help create safer and more aware drivers, for example, taking in all the junctions of the A500, A508 and A5123 to the west of Northampton and following urban routes containing retail parks, housing developments and industrial areas. We do many urban courses for prospective delivery and private drivers who want to be as safe as possible on the roads.
