VERY!

Antifreeze is what is added to the water which goes into your radiator in simple terms. If you have none, and you experience very cold temperatures, the water could freeze, and as it expands could crack very expensive parts of your engine such as your cylinder head or block.

Any garage can check the concentration of your Anti-Freeze, or you can do it yourself if you have the correct bits. Remember, we are talking about the fluid here which goes into your radiator, which is also know as coolant, and not screen wash!

Screen wash needs to be topped up and is essential for a safe, clear windscreen. But do not confuse the two! This probably sounds very patronising to some readers, but it is amazing the amount of people who do not know the difference.

After the very cold December in the UK, you have probably noticed the sudden increase in potholes in the road.

Potholes form when water gets into the road surface, freezes (and thus expands) and cracks the concrete. With many cars driving over these potholes the concrete soon erodes, making larger holes for the water to move into and freeze.

Over time what started as a small hole turns into a dangerous pothole. These potholes are very serious, especially for motorcyclists. At best they are a nuisance, at worst they can cause a serious accident!

Remember to be aware of these dangers, especially on rural or badly maintained roads.
