Drill
A
cockpit drill is essential to carry out when you are about to drive
an unfamiliar car - especially when you get behind the wheel of
your new car.

Driving,
The Essential Skills publication from the Driving Standards
Agency recommend the following checks for an effective cockpit drill:
Everytime
you get into your vehicle, check that:
1)
All doors are closed.
2)
The driving seat is in the best position and you can see clearly
in all directions and reach ALL the controls with ease.
3)
The head restraints are in the correct position.
4)
The mirrors are clean and are correctly adjusted.
5)
You and your passengers have your seat belts on.
6)
Check the parking brake again and check the gear is in
neutral (or P or N in an automatic).
7)
You have enough fuel for your journey.
If
you do drive an unfamiliar car make sure that you check the following
in addition to the above:
1)
Controls: Where are they located, and how do they work.
2)
Size, width, height and weight of the vehicle.
3)
Handling (front, rear or four-wheel drive)
4)
Brakes - Whether ABS brakes are fitted.
